Celebrate Landscape Architecture Month With a Community Design Charette!

Kendall, WA, April 24-25, 2015

As noted in the previous newsletter (in January), a National Park Service-RTCA/WASLA charrette is scheduled for April 24-25 (1/2 day Friday, full day Saturday) in Kendall, WA (Whatcom County). This event will be one of the events held by WASLA during Landscape Architecture Month.

Kendall is a rural community of about 4,000 people in north central Whatcom County east of Bellingham. The charrette will focus on providing alternatives for approximately 3.7 miles of proposed trail connecting one end of the community with the other. Currently, the only connection (without driving) is to walk along a highway with narrow shoulders, which creates a safety hazard.

This charrette will be the latest of many charrette collaborations between NPS-RTCA and WASLA in Washington over the past 17 years or so. NPS-RTCA and WASLA will be partnered on this charrette with the Kendall-Columbia Valley Connectivity Plan Association.

To volunteer to serve on a design team, contact Don Benson, ASLA at 206-297-1259 or by e-mail at [email protected]. Thank you!
