2016 WASLA Student Scholarship


         

The Washington Society of Landscape Architects (WASLA) will award two Student Scholarship for student(s) who are pursuing an education in Landscape Architecture.  One Scholarship to the University of Washington and the second to Washington State University accredited programs.

This initial scholarship program offers two scholarships, one at each University for the amount of $2,000 each.  Scholarship awards are to be used for tuition, books, supplies, etc.

Scholarship application is due to WASLA on December 11th, 2015.  Send submittals to the WASLA at [email protected], Attn: Fellows/Scholarship Committee.

Eligibility 

  1. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate landscape architecture program from the State of Washington.
  2. Applicants must provide verification from their college/university that they are currently enrolled.
  3. Applicants must be a member of the ASLA Student Society; and
  4. Applicants must have maintained a grade point average of at least 3.0 on a GPA scale of 4.0 for all courses taken to date at the college or university.

Procedures

  1. Scholarship applications are available from the WASLA website at www.ASLA.web.org/scholarship
  2. Applications must be emailed by noon, Friday, December 11th, 2015.  Scholarships will be announced by December 18th. Payments will be made in late December 2015 for the upcoming semester/quarter during the winter of 2016.
  3. Provide name on each page of the application.
  4. Provide a brief, signed statement (1 page max.) of why you are requesting this scholarship and why you chose Landscape Architecture as your field of study.
  5. Provide a 3-page (8 ½” x 11”) portfolio of your student work to-date.  Portfolio can be a combination of images, text, sketches, etc. as appropriate to represent your work and approach to Landscape Architecture. 
  6. Provide two letters of recommendation from faculty/staff or person that is familiar with you personally or professionally.
  7. Application, portfolio and letters of recommendation are to be submitted electronically in .pdf format.  Please email to [email protected] and put “scholarship application for <<your name>>” in the subject line.

Judging and Selection based on the following Criteria:

  1. Written statement - scholastic and professional goals and objectives
  2. Letters of recommendation
  3. Portfolio – representative work
  4. Merit - accomplishments
