Washington Landscape Architects Unite for Park(ing) Day 2016!

Statewide, from Seattle to Spokane, we had a blast celebrating PARK(ing) Day. Special thanks to all who created a park, supported or assisted a park team, or ventured out to visit parks on the day of the event!

These dedicated ladies from the Ballard Writers Collective have been perennial participants in Parking Day in Seattle. This year, they braved the drizzly Seattle Saturday and shared books.

PARK(ing) Day Seattle+: Months of coordination with partners at SDOT and the Seattle Design Festival paid off as PARK(ing) Day Seattle was a smashing success!  In total, 50 pop-up parks and protected bike and pedestrian lanes were implemented as Seattle joined the worldwide celebration of PARK(ing) Day!

In addition, through sponsorship by member firms, WASLA was able to cover most of the required safety cone and signage rental costs for park participants. Thank you again to 2016 PARK(ing) Day Seattle sponsors: Play & Park Structures, GGLO,The Watershed Company, Brumbaugh & Associates, SvR, Nakano Associates and J.A. Brennan Associates. Thank you for helping our community to engage in public space design!

The Spokane parklet all set up and ready for visitors!

2016 PARK(ing) Day Spokane: WASLA-member landscape architects in downtown Spokane teamed up with local non-profit YES—You Express Studio—to celebrate PARK(ing) Day. This was an elegantly designed space complete with cornhole and site furnishings for seating. A special thanks to Northwest Playgrounds for sponsoring this temporary space as well as Maglin, Clearwater Summit Group, Coast to Coast Turf and Iron Age Designs for the material donations that made this space such a perfect retreat from the surrounding hardscape.
