2021 WASLA Conference Call for Educational Sessions

The Washington Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (WASLA) is issuing a Call for Educational Session Proposals for the 2021 Annual Conference being held this Autumn in Spokane, WA. We invite landscape architects, academics, allied professionals, and vendors of the profession to submit education session proposals. We are looking for energized speakers in multiple presentation formats: panel with moderator, roundtables, presentations/lectures with Q&A, design conversations, and walking tours, as examples.

Submissions:

  • Please submit your proposal through this form by August 6, 2021, 11:59 PM.
  • Session determinations will be announced by August 20, 2021 end-of-day.
  • Conference educational sessions will be 60 minutes in length (50 min presentation, and 10 min Q&A).

We anticipate an attentive and energetic audience of approximately 200 attendees for sessions examining the theme of this year’s conference: METAMORPHOSIS.

METAMORPHOSIS

The conference is centered on the shifting conditions occurring within this period of change, unearthing how individuals and communities have used this moment to catalyze change and shape our future. Some sessions will showcase sustainable design and an ability not only to weather the storm, but to adapt to a changing climate, becoming more resilient in the process. Some sessions will discuss adversity and the courage to face systemic racism head-on and be the change. Some sessions will discuss transformations, growth, and evolution; and the fundamental human need to continually change and improve.

Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System

As the organization representing the Landscape Architecture profession in Washington State, WASLA’s mission is to lead and educate within the profession and to participate in the careful stewardship, wise planning, and artful design of our cultural and natural environments. Following enactment of the state Practice Act, WASLA became an approved course provider with the Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System (LA CES). WASLA will work with presenters to meet LA CES requirements and will register their session on the national LA CES database. LA CES requires all sessions be educational in nature and reinforce the learning objectives without the use of proprietary materials. Vendors’ sessions will be reviewed carefully to ensure adequate academic content is provided. Honorariums, travel, and lodging expenses are not provided.

Conference Registration for Presenters

All conference presenters are required to register for the conference as either “speak only” (no cost to present during session) or as full-conference attendees. Lead presenters of selected sessions will receive Speaker Agreements with further instructions and conditions. Lead presenters assume responsibility of informing and coordinating terms and logistics with all session speakers and/or panelists.
