Eastern Washington Report

It's hard to believe that almost one year has passed since I started my journey with WASLA as the East-side representative. But, as I look back on this whirlwind of a year, it's easy to see how the time flew by. I've learned so much about the L.A. profession through my involvement in WASLA; I've grown tremendously as a person; and, I've met some truly amazing people who are passionate about landscape architecture and dedicated to spreading the knowledge of our profession.

With the support and knowledge of these individuals, we've been able to implement some programs offered to L.A. professionals in the Spokane area. Brown Bag lunches are great opportunities for local landscape architects and designers to meet over lunch and learn something new about the profession for Continuing Education Credits. Although the original plan was to hold one Brown Bag lunch quarterly, we've held two in the last two months, and we have two more in the pipeline for September and October. It has been great to see people in this profession eager to step up and be involved. In fact, several professionals in the Spokane area have taken the pledge to help grow our role in the community and increase the visibility of landscape architecture in our region.

That's not to say we haven't had fun along the way, too. Local L.A.'s and landscape professionals gathered for a winter social in January, and a spring fling in April. If you happened to have missed out, another social is in the works for August and social gatherings are expected to be held quarterly. So, whether you're looking to get involved or to simply meet and mingle with other landscape professionals in the area, there are programs and events available to you. If you are interested in hosting or attending a Brown Bag lunch or a social gathering, please feel free to contact me. My email is [email protected], or you can reach me by phone at 509-325-0511.
