PARK(ing) Day: A Smashing Success!

2015 PARK(ing) Day Seattle:
Months of coordination with partners at SDOT and the Seattle Design Festival paid off as PARK(ing) Day Seattle experienced a record number of parks!  In total, 57 pop-up parks and protected bike and pedestrian lanes were implemented as Seattle joined the worldwide celebration of PARK(ing) Day!

In addition, through sponsorship by member firms, WASLA was able to cover 100% of the required safety cone and signage rental costs for park participants. In doing so, WASLA ensured PARK(ing) Day participation was equitable and accessible to all. Thank you again to 2015 PARK(ing) Day Seattle sponsors: Play & Park Structures, GGLO, The Watershed Company, Swift Company, Mithun, SvR Design Company, Brumbaugh & Associates, and Ned Gulbran Landscape Architects.

2015 PARK(ing) Day Washington:  A record number of parks were also designed and implemented in Washington State!  Washington State did an excellent job of celebrating the world-wide event, with state-wide participation from places such as Seattle, Tacoma, Spokane, and Pullman, totaling 79 known parks.  Don’t forget to check the November issue of Landscape Architecture Magazine to see if your park or a park you visited won the National ASLA social media contest!

Special thanks to all who created a park, supported or assisted a park team, or ventured out to visit parks on the day of the event. Bravo!

Mark your calendars: 2016 PARK(ing) Day will take place next year on Friday, September 16th, 2016.
