We've made it to the half-way mark of the year!
Oh, I just love June - lush leaves filling the canopies of trees, warm breezes, daylight that last well into the evening hours...It so happens to be my birthday month, and I will be jet-setting to Northern Italy at the end of the month! So I could be a little biased, but I just think June is a pretty great month!
June is a great month for the Washington Chapter of ASLA, too! We hosted an exciting program of super-fast themed presentations along with ANOVA Site Furnishings for the Land 8X8: Lightning Talks. For those of you who couldn't make this fun and fast-paced event (myself included, unfortunately) videos of the presentations will be available on the Land8 website soon! Coming up just around the corner, screenings of Five Seasons: The Gardens of Piet Oudolf will be shown at the Northwest Film Forum (1515 12th Ave, Seattle) from June 15th through the 21st.
Moving on to official "business" business - The Washington Chapter will be conducting elections for the Board of Directors' open positions. Keep your eyes peeled for the ballot which will be sent to your email on June 18th! The voting period is just one week, so be sure to cast your ballots right away!
If you are planning on attending the 2018 ASLA Meeting and Expo in Philadelphia, note that Early Bird registration will close after June 29th. You will save up to $150 by registering during the Early Bird window! Earn up to 21 professional development hours (PDH) at 119 education sessions, 16 field sessions, 6 workshops, and 2 general sessions. Network and celebrate at more than a dozen special events happening on the EXPO floor and at the Marriott Downtown Hotel, the ASLA headquarters hotel. Explore hundreds of new products, services, technology applications, and design solutions all under one roof at ASLA EXPO. I hope to see some fellow Washington Chapter members there!

NPS Grants for Outdoor Recreation Projects Due June 30!
Whether you are working on a pollinator pathway, an urban garden with green infrastructure, or a scenic mountain bike trail, the National Park Service is here to help!
The National Park Service Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program (RTCA) supports community-led conservation and outdoor recreation projects nationwide. Typical RTCA assistance may include community engagement, planning and/or design assistance. Our project work includes parks and trails, conserved and improved access to rivers, protecting special places, and recreation opportunities for healthy and resilient communities.
State and local governments, tribes, non-profits, and grassroots organizations are welcome to apply for grants of technical assistance.To learn more about RTCA, visit: www.nps.gov/rtca.

FILM SCREENING: Five Seasons: The Gardens of Piet Oudolf at Northwest Film Forum, June 15-21
Revolutionary landscape designer Piet Oudolf is known for designing public spaces like New York City's popular High Line that redefine our conception of gardens as works of art in themselves. This gorgeous, meditative documentary immerses viewers in his work, taking us inside Oudolf's creative process. From his aesthetic theories to his strikingly abstract sketches to the ecological implications of his ideas, the film poetically reveals how Oudolf upends conventional notions of nature, space, and, ultimately, beauty itself.

2018 Licensure Summit
The Washington State Landscape Architecture Board is excited to announce that two of our members will be attending the 2018 Licensure Summit, June 22 - 24, in Columbus, Ohio. This summit is offered through a partnership between CLARB and the ASLA and is an opportunity to learn from each other and build effective and communicative relationships between the member boards of CLARB and ASLA chapters.
