Gillian's GardenProject Title: Gillian's Garden This small garden was designed for the owner of Ravenna Gardens, a much‐loved urban garden shop. The garden is a place of respite and a place for experimentation. The re‐envisioned garden features a contemporary aesthetic with its use of industrial materials. The gently sloping back garden was reorganized as a series of terraces tucked into lush plantings. The result is an intimate garden that feels spacious, lives large, and supports the owner's lifestyle. There are places for sunning, growing food, entertaining, and testing plants. The terraces are delineated with simple materials and feature gabion retaining walls, a steel arbor, hedges, and artful lighting. A variety of unique plants, planters, and salvaged garden artifacts add detail and interest. The sun terrace is a place to relax on lounge chairs surrounded by galvanized tubs filled with herbs, vegetables, and flowers. The entertainment terrace provides a sheltered outdoor room framed with steel arbor and offers garden views complemented by water features as focal points. The contemporary garden extends into the front garden, enhancing the neighborhood, and welcoming visitors. |
