Student and Emerging Professional

Committee Description

The Student and Emerging Professional (SEP) Committee is dedicated to improving student achievement in landscape architectural studies and providing new professionals with resources and networking opportunities. Strengthening the community of young and entry-level landscape architects serves to increase retention in the field, promote resource-sharing, and build professional relationships. The SEP committee manages and awards student scholarships each year under the administration of WASLA Board of Directors. Awardees are deserving landscape architecture students in Washington State and active WASLA members. Tasks and Goals

  • Cultivate UW/WSU Relationships
  • Promote Landscape Architecture and WASLA with Students and Faculty
  • Engage and Support Student Chapter Leadership
  • Facilitate WASLA /ASLA Student Award Programs
  • Administer UW/WSU Student Mentor Programs
  • Provide Networking Events for Emerging Professionals
  • Host LARE Review Sessions and Facilitate Study Groups
  • Manage WASLA Student Scholarship Program

Student Scholarship Opportunities for WASLA Members:

Academic Scholarship – This scholarship supports academic expenses and tuition costs. This scholarship is awarded to two students late in the year who are currently enrolled in a university landscape architecture program in Washington State and entering their final year of study, either in a baccalaureate or graduate program. Applicants must also be a student member of ASLA and WASLA to be considered for this award.

Conference Stipend – This stipend is awarded to two students early in the year to attend the annual ASLA Conference and Expo every fall. This stipend is open to students who are enrolled in a university landscape architecture program in Washington State. Applicants must be a student member of ASLA and WASLA to be considered for this award.

Whether you are a college student, an emerging professional, or a seasoned professional looking to give back, there are many ways to get involved with the SEP committtee:

  • Sign up to become a student mentor. 
  • Send us information on scholarships, internships, or other opportunities for students and emerging professionals.
  • Become a member of the Student and Emerging Professional Committee. All interested professionals are welcome to participate and contribute! A larger committee base will allow us to provide more services to students and emerging professionals in Washington State.
