Description:

The homeowners purchased this modern home in 2016.  They desired an equally modern landscape that would respond to the architecture and accommodate a variety of uses including a gardening, gathering,  and growing spaces.  With primary living areas located on the second and third levels, the birds‐eye view of the garden became a significant design consideration.  Functional requirements included integrating a yard for pets and reconfiguring bioretention feature built to manage of storm water.  

The resulting landscape is visually engaging from all levels of the home and can be enjoyed from inside and outside all times of the year.  The garden employs a graphic design style mimicking the home’s modern aesthetic.  The bioretention planter was redesigned to be an attractive garden feature rather than an intrusion.  The resulting graphic style of the landscape design with its strong forms, plants planted in bars, and contrasting hardscape materials and textures makes a powerful statement at ground level and from above.  The color and form of the columnar trees complement the architecture and anchor the building to the garden.
