Keynote Presenters

We are excited to welcome Rico Quirindongo, Director of the the City of Seattle Office of Planning & Community Development, Sarah Samynathan and Story Wiggins of Terremoto in San Francisco as our Keynote Speakers at this year's conference!

Rico Quirindongo is Acting Director of the City of Seattle Office of Planning & Community Development. Rico was a mayoral appointee to the Historic Seattle Council for six years, was a founding member of the National Organization of Minority Architects Northwest Chapter and Rico sat on the AIA+2030 national steering committee, helping 24 cities nationally provide curriculum to meet the 2030 Challenge.

Rico works with organizations to positively influence communities through design. He was chair of the Pike Place Market Preservation and Development Authority Council, was a Downtown Seattle Association board member, and was AIA Seattle President in 2012-13. Rico’s first Ted talk is called Transforming Communities Through Architecture. In 2021, he was given a Commercial Real Estate Leadership Award as a Neighborhood Champion by the Puget Sound Business Journal. He was recognized by AIA as a Citizen Architect in 2020 and is a State Representative on the AIA Strategic Council.

Sarah Samynathan joined Terremoto in 2018 as a Landscape Designer and has been with their San Francisco team since. She has worked on residential, commercial, and specialty landscape projects and has experience in all phases from concept design to construction administration. In her work, Sarah strives to find design solutions that are site-specific, sustainable, and simple in materiality. She also strongly believes in honoring the labor and land care that goes into creating and maintaining beautiful landscapes.

Outside of work, Sarah has always been passionate about aiding the unhoused community in San Francisco and continues to do so through volunteer efforts and encouraging design students to tackle social issues through their projects.

Prior to her time with Terremoto, Sarah graduated from Cal Poly in 2018 with a major in Landscape Architecture and a minor in Psychology. She is now working towards her licensure in the state of California to further strengthen her expertise in the field.

Story Wiggins is a licensed landscape architect with a background in historic preservation and land stewardship. Her intuitive approach to design varies by project, but aims always to honor the land, exercise restraint, and allow for evolution.

Story received a masters in landscape architecture from UC Berkeley and a BA in Historic Preservation and French from the College of Charleston. During her time at UC Berkeley, she worked as an intern for the National Park Service in their Cultural Landscape Program in their Seattle and San Francisco offices. She has lived and studied abroad in Paris and Rome, where she was inspired by how cities are brought to life when public space is valued and tended.

She joined Terremoto’s San Francisco office in 2016, where she leads projects of various scales and types, including high-end residential, institutional, commercial and agricultural. Her work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Gardenista and House Beautiful. She has participated as a guest critic at UC Berkeley, CalPoly Pomona and The Ohio State University.

Story is co-lead of Terremoto’s Land and Labor working group, which advocates for the building and gardening trades and tradespeople that make our projects possible.
