The $12.6 million first redevelopment phase of Leach Botanical Garden gives visitors new reasons to visit its 17.3-acre public grounds owned by Portland Parks and Recreation in Oregon. The revitalized public garden serves as cultural touchstone and an environmental asset in an underserved neighborhood in southeast Portland. The design team began by producing an ambitious master plan with public input, owner and team collaboration, and strong strategic thinking, and then began realizing phase one of the plan. This phase adds a dramatic tree walk elevated 35 feet over a forested slope, a pollinator meadow, a gathering green, a pavilion with fireside terrace, new paths and connecting trails, an entry courtyard, restroom, utilities infrastructure for future development, parking, and sustainable stormwater features.
