Sea2City Design Challenge Explores How to Decolonize Design Practice
Project Title: Sea2City Design Challenge Explores How to Decolonize Design Practice Landscape Architect: Mithun + One Architecture Category: Analysis and Planning Award: Award of Merit Location: Vancouver, BC Description: This nature-based climate adaptation approach to the much-loved False Creek in Vancouver, BC envisions a return to the historic shoreline where Host Nations are active, celebrated partners in the transformation. The plan is prompting ongoing, continuous learning between city and province agencies, a youth adaptation lab, cultural artists, designers, the general public and Host Nation cultural advisors. People are imagining a future where generations have practiced coastal adaptation and welcome the ever-changing nature of its shorelines. With reconciliation and reciprocity as a foundation, the work intentionally explores decolonizing the design process, inspiring the region to engage with inclusive planning and site-specific design.
