Happy World Landscape Architecture Month! WLAM is an international celebration of the profession which also aims to introduce landscape architecture to the public by highlighting spaces designed by landscape architects. One of the ways you can participate in WLAM is by taking a picture of one of your designs, or one of your favorite designed spaces, with the "This is Landscape Architecture". This movement helps to demonstrate how landscape architecture affects our daily lives - by sharing all of the various types of projects that landscape architects are involved in. You can either share your images on your own social media platforms, or you can send it to our national PR & Communication Coordinator, J.R. Taylor, to have your work highlighted on the ASLA media platforms! Visit the ASLA website and click the "Want to Share Your Picture?" button. Be sure to use the hashtag #WLAM2018 so that everyone can follow along!
The Washington Chapter will be celebrating WLAM by hosting a Trivia Night on April 24th at the Big Time Brewery & Alehouse in partnership with our awesome sponsors Maglin Site Furnishings and Pacific Lighting Systems. Questions will all be landscape architecture-centric! Come on out and get your nerd on!
Speaking of sponsors, I just want to take a moment to thank all of our sponsors and exhibitors for helping our chapter put on an exceptionally epic conference last month! We would not be able to pull off such a tremendously successful event without their support. I also want to thank all of our speakers for providing the rich content which makes our conferences so worthwhile. The National Park Service Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance program is now accepting applications for technical assistance for outdoor recreation projects. Local governments, non-profits, and grassroots organizations are welcome to apply.

Lecture with Gina Ford, FASLA: "Designing for Reilience, Equity, and Democracy"
Gina Ford, F ASLA, is a landscape architect, co-founder and principal of Agency Landscape + Planning. Underpinning her two decades of practice are a commitment to the design and planning of public places and the perpetuation of the value of landscape architecture via thought leadership, exhibitions, teaching, writing and lecturing.
Gina's work encompasses a wide range of scales and project types, from public parks and plazas to large-scale landscape planning and waterfront projects. She brings to each project a passion for the process of making vibrant landscape spaces-from the conceptual design to the details of implementation-with a particular focus on the life and use of urban, public environments. Gina led the design of the Chicago Riverwalk, Boston's Lawn on D, Council Bluff's Tom Hanafan Rivers Edge Park and Raleigh's Moore Square and strategic planning efforts including the Cedar Rapids Flood Recovery Planning, the Rebuild by Design Competition and the Changing Course Competition while a principal with Sasaki.
Her work has received awards from the American Society of Landscape Architects, the American Planning Association and the American Institute of Architects, among others. She is on the board of directors for the Cultural Landscape Foundation and was the recipient of the Harvard Graduate School of Design's Charles Eliot Travelling Fellowship and Wellesley College's Shaw Fellowship.
With the onslaught of challenges (and opportunities) associated with climate change, significant demographic shifts and increased political activism, what is the role of the landscape architect in designing for such change? Gina will discuss a series of projects at a variety for scales where landscape is a medium and catalyst for addressing resilience, equity and democratic action.
This lecture is FREE and open to the public, but we ask that you register HERE.

Do You Know CLARB?
Who is CLARB? The Council for Landscape Architecture Regulatory Boards (CLARB) is a member-based organization that provides resources for landscape architect regulatory boards in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and certain Canadian provinces. The organization works with all of its member regulatory boards to protect the public health, safety, and welfare, through the development and promotion of consistent licensure standards, such as the Landscape Architect Registration Examination (LARE).
Why is CLARB Important to Me? CLARB conducts outreach to students and licensees in an effort to make the LARE more accessible, to make sure the requirements for licensure capture the knowledge and experience needed to protect the public, and to make the licensure process easier to navigate. CLARB encourages ongoing relationships between state ASLA chapters and their respective regulatory boards. This type of relationship ensures boards are aware of current industry practices and informs the public of the activity of their state regulatory authority.
This collaboration between CLARB, students, licensees, member boards, and ASLA affects every Landscape Architect and aspiring Landscape Architect and helps to reduce or eliminate unnecessary barriers to practicing Landscape Architecture and to promote portability of our licenses among jurisdictions.

AHBL is excited to announce the addition of three principals and three associate principals. Structural engineers, Drew McEachern, PE, SE and Ken Leland PE, SE; and landscape architect, Jason Morse, PLA, ASLA were promoted to principal. Civil engineers, David Nason, PE; Bill Fierst, PE; and Erick Fitzpatrick, PE were promoted to associate principal.
