Dear WASLA Members and Readers,
The summer is flying by, but it certainly is not over! It seems like it will be sticking around with this heat wave. I hope you all find ways to beat the heat, stay cool, and stay safe out there.
In true summer fashion, there is not much to report on the WASLA front aside from a few upcoming events. One of which is the State Conference that is now less than a month away! If you have not seen the emails and other notifications to register, now is your time to sign up and join in on a fantastic event. I am incredibly excited for our inspiring featured speakers, informative sessions, and innovative sponsors and vendors. You can find more information and a link to register below.
Interested in being more than just a conference attendee this year? Sign up to be a room host! Room hosts introduce session speakers, assist with tracking attendees, and help facilitate sessions as needed by the speakers. This is an easy way to volunteer and give back to the WASLA community (and get a reduced registration fee). If any of those perks intrigue you, please email [email protected] and express your interest in hosting!
Finally, we have our third Open Studio Social happening this month on August 24th at ƛ̕ax̌ʷadis (Tl' awh-ah-dees) Park in Kenmore. Unlike the previous socials, you will be able to earn LACES credits by attending this event as you tour the park and learn about it from the designers. If you have not RSVP’d already, you can find the link below.
(Hopefully) Cooly,

Nason Ridge Community Forest Workshop Call for Volunteers
|
The Nason Ridge Community Forest is 3714 acres and located near Plain, WA west of Leavenworth in the Central Cascades. The workshop will take place over 1.5 days starting on Friday afternoon(October 20) and continuing on Saturday(October 21) all day. Food and lodging are being arranged. It is being sponsored by the Chelan County Department of Natural Resources, the National Park Service Rivers, Trails and Community Assistance Program (NPS-RTCA) and WASLA.
The workshop (charrette) involves the placement of trails, hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, design and placement of trailheads and interpretation/educational opportunities with active forest management and ecosystem conservation components. The workshop will involve brainstorming with local community members and will also include two teams led by landscape architects with participation(we hope) from students from both state universities. One team will focus on interpretation/education and the other on design components (trailheads, connectivity etc.).
Please e-mail Don Benson at [email protected] or call at 206-297-1259 if you are interested in participating. As many of you know, WASLA has collaborated with NPS-RTCA on many successful charrettes and workshops in the past at sites across the state, efforts we hope to continue.

Help ASLA Address Water Issues
|
As ASLA works to make certain that water-related policies continue to benefit landscape architects, we need to hear from you!
Sustainable management of our nation's water resources remains essential to climate mitigation and resilience, biodiversity conservation, and environmental justice. ASLA is working to ensure reliable and robust policies and funding for landscape architects to continue working on water projects.
Complete this short survey to tell us about your water projects and how federal water policies impact your work HERE. Your responses will help ASLA continue to work with policy makers to enhance opportunities for the profession.
