Hello WASLA Members,
With summer in full swing, we’re excited to turn our attention to WASLA Field Day: Downtown Seattle, happening Friday, September 12th—and trust me, this is not one to miss.
We’ll be celebrating the transformation of the Seattle Waterfront, a once-in-a-generation effort that has reshaped the public realm and reconnected the city to its shoreline. For over 15 years, Andrew tenBrink of James Corner Field Operations has led this monumental design and planning effort, and we’re thrilled to welcome him as our Field Day keynote speaker. He’ll also guide us on an exclusive tour of the waterfront, sharing behind-the-scenes stories, challenges, and lessons learned.
This is a rare opportunity to experience the scale and impact of the waterfront renewal first-hand—from restored piers and open spaces to new bike and pedestrian routes, innovative stormwater strategies, and designs that honor the cultural and ecological story of the shoreline.
And there’s more to come—we’ll soon be announcing additional tours of beloved public spaces along the waterfront. We expect strong interest in this event, so we encourage you to sign up early to help us plan and ensure a smooth experience for everyone.
After years of visioning, design, fundraising, and construction, we can’t wait to gather as a community to explore, learn, and celebrate this extraordinary civic transformation together.
See you in September!
Mike Faulkner
