President's Remarks Laura Thompson
I want to take this opportunity to congratulate our two ASLA Meeting & ExpoScholarship recipients, Kevin VanMeter and Allison Ong! Both recipients are students of the University of Washington Landscape Architecture program; Kevin an undergraduate and Allison a masters student. Kevin and Allison were chosen among six total applicants for this scholarship. Each applicant had to respond to the essay question, "How would attendance of the 2017 ASLA Meeting and Expo contribute to your education and professional development?" Between our panel of scholarship jurors and the Executive Committee, Kevin and Allison were awarded the scholarships for their strength in writing, their ability to creatively yet definitively answer the essay question, and for showing an interest in specific courses provided at the conference to enhance their educational careers and professional direction. We are delighted to invite them on this journey for an experience of a lifetime. Stay tuned for their post-conference write-ups which will be included in the newsletter following the ASLA Meeting and Expo. Please help me in congratulating Kevin and Allison!

We are looking forward to another evening celebrating the meaningful, hard work of Washington's professionals, this year at the Olympic Sculpture Park's Paccar Pavilion!

WASLA Membership Survey
We want to hear from our members about their satisfaction with WASLA and ASLA membership. This feedback is important for aligning the goals and impacts of WASLA with the values and desires of its members. Please take a moment to complete the *short membership survey.*
2017 WASLA Student Award Winners
Thank you to all of the students who submitted entries for student awards this year. The projects were reviewed by a jury of WASLA members over the course of two days. On May 12, 2017 WASLA Student Design Awards where reviewed and then National ASLA Student projects were reviewed the following day. The high quality of work from students this year showcases the amazing educators we have in this state and the amazing talent of landscape architecture students in Washington.
Take a look at all of this year's winners.
NPS Sultan Monroe Workshop Recap
On June 2nd and 3rd, thirteen WASLA volunteers travelled to the Skykomish River Valley to participate in a design charrette with the towns of Sultan and Monroe. The focus of this charrette was to develop and design a water trail, which has the long-term potential to carry people on the river trail through 11 distinct rural towns and cities along the scenic US Highway 2 corridor, via multi-modal watercraft. Sultan and Monroe are in the middle reach of three, and will serve as a template for future charrettes covering the upper and lower reaches. Other participants in this event included the National Park Service (NPS) River, Trails, and Towns Coalition, Snohomish County, WDFW, Forterra, and American Whitewater. Read More.
