President's Remarks

Hello WASLA Members,

Summer is officially here, and we’re looking forward to connecting with many of you at upcoming events and continuing the great momentum we’ve built so far this year.

First, a big congratulations to the University of Washington and Washington State University students who were recently recognized with ASLA Student Awards. Their work was not only creative and inspiring, but a strong reminder of the talent and vision shaping the future of our profession. A heartfelt thank you to the jurors, faculty, and volunteers who helped support and organize the awards process—and to the students for sharing their ideas with us all.

Coming up, we’re excited to host a Happy Hour at Trillium Nursery in Redmond sponsored by Basalite. We’ll enjoy time outdoors in a beautiful nursery setting, with an informal tour of the grounds and a chance to reconnect with fellow professionals over drinks. It’s a perfect setting to enjoy the best of the Pacific Northwest—great weather, great company, and our shared passion for outdoor spaces.

Meanwhile, planning continues for our Field Day: Downtown Seattle, happening Friday, September 12th. The event will explore inspiring projects along the Seattle waterfront, highlighting the people, places, and design efforts that have shaped this evolving public realm. We hope you’ll join us for a day of walking tours, conversations, and meaningful connections.

Finally, we’re grateful to those who’ve applied and expressed interest in serving on the 2025 WASLA Board of Directors. This is a great opportunity to get involved, help shape the future of our profession in Washington, and to be an advocate for students, emerging professionals, and climate action. Keep an eye out for upcoming election details—we look forward to your participation.

Enjoy the season, and we’ll see you soon!

Best,

 Mike Faulkner

   WASLA President

WASLA Climate Action Committee Survey

The Climate Action Committee wants to hear from you!!

The WASLA Climate Action Committee seeks to identify the climate-related work Washington state landscape architects and allied professionals are currently doing, and what climate topics and resources are of interest in the state. The results of this survey will help inform the work of the WASLA Climate Action Committee and will help identify how to better serve you and the climate work in our field. The following survey has 14 questions and should take 5-15 minutes.

If you know someone who would be interested in filling out this survey, please share it with them!
