Job Requirements

At SCJ Studio the work is varied, from luxury single-family residential to high profile regional transportation projects. Commercial, multi-family, parks and campus/institutional work round out our typical client list. SCJ’s Studio’s Landscape Architects perform professional level planning, site design, and graphic design tasks in a variety of formats and settings in a supporting capacity for project managers and principals throughout SCJ Alliance. Tasks assigned may include:

  • Manage small to large projects, depending on experience level.
  • Communication with design team members.
  • Assist in the management of individual projects and drawing production.
  • Site inventory and analysis duties including on-site investigations and mapping.
  • Research of code, regulations or standards.
  • Development of programs, schematics, and concepts.
  • Drafting and development of design drawings and construction documents (manually and utilizing Adobe, CAD and LandFX software).
  • Development of construction specifications.
  • Perform construction observation, review of shop drawings, materials submittals.
  • Delivery/retrieval of project materials.
  • Design/development of communication materials (graphics, hand and computer).
  • Assist in the maintenance of project files (paper and digital).
  • Assist in the maintenance of digital file storage, digital libraries of graphic symbols, CAD details, etc.
  • Assist with business development and securing new clients, depending on experience level.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree of landscape architecture from a college or university accredited by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB).
  • Five years of direct landscape architecture experience in the fields of site planning, recreation planning, site design, and landscape design.
  • Experience working with a team to develop conceptual, schematic, and construction documents for landscape architecture projects.
  • Strong design and problem-solving skills.
  • A positive “we can help” attitude.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills working with team members, consultants and clients.
  • Experience utilizing Autodesk/LandFX, Adobe Creative Suite, 3D modeling and MSOffice
  • Ability to graphically render plans by hand (marker, pencil) and using computer rendering programs.
  • A landscape architecture license in the primary state of planned practice or a Council of Landscape Architecture Registration Board (CLARB) record in good standing.

Value-Added Qualifications:

  • Seven to ten years of experience in the fields of site planning, recreation planning, site design, landscape design, and/or GIS mapping and analysis.
  • Experience with GIS mapping and analysis.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, Revit, Infrastructure Design Suite.

Special Requirements/Physical Demands/Working Conditions: 

  • Work is primarily performed in an office setting, periodically requiring site visits to make bids on potential projects and/or to see the progression of won projects.
  • During site visits, projects may be under construction and therefore muddy, dirty and containing normal construction related dangers. Safety gear is usually not required, but will be provided if necessary.
  • Requires operating office machines such as, but not limited to, computers, copiers, phone and scanners.
  • A Washington State Driver’s License is required.
