President's Remarks

Tim Slazinik

I hope this newsletter finds you all safe and healthy during this unprecedented situation facing our communities. Adjusting to this new reality has been a new challenge for many of us, but has shown our resilience as professionals and as people. As you may know, WASLA has taken some necessary steps to protect and accommodate our members during these uncertain times. Our staff continues to work hard to serve you, safely and remotely. Our conference has been postponed to July, and we will be posting more about those dates in the coming weeks. All registrations for the March conference will be honored for the July dates. Please reach out to us if you have questions regarding changes, refunds, etc.… We are working to bring together some online content/webinars to make sure we all can stay engaged as we work from home. Take a look in this newsletter, and keep an eye on your email for more details to come.

Overall, we hope you all will remain safe, and do your part to slow the spread of this virus. We are constantly working to keep providing you with the level of service you expect from ASLA during this trying time. Staying connected is more important than ever, so don’t hesitate to reach out.

Stay Safe and Healthy,

Tim Slazinik
WASLA President

WEBINAR: Out of Office: Tools, Team, and Togetherness for WFH

Out of Office: Tools, Team, and Togetherness for WFH
Tuesday, March 31
1:00 –2:00 pm ET

Within the last two weeks, more firms have been suggesting or requiring that employees work from home. Is your company ready to adjust to this new normal? Do you have the IT infrastructure in place to continue business as usual? How do you plan to stay connected to colleagues and clients?

Join us for a short presentation and conversation with three practitioners who were implementing innovative models of practice before the COVID-19 outbreak, such as virtual offices, design collaboratives, and satellite employees. Eamonn, Nina, and Jessalyn will share their experiences with remote/mobile issues like workflows, teaming, and communication, including:
  • Tools: technology for remote work and collaboration
  • Team: communication, culture, and clients
  • Togetherness: Family. Working from home. Mental health. "Oh my god, they just closed the kids' school until APRIL 26th!?!?"

In advance of the webinar, we ask that you answer a few short survey questions, so that we can address attendees’ most pressing needs and questions. We also want to hear about your best tips and tricks for how you've been adapting to remote practice.

Speakers:
Eamonn Hutton, ASLA
Senior Landscape Architect

WASLA Membership

Do you want another reason to join the ASLA?  Continuing education.

If you are licensed, you know how expensive continuing education can be.  ASLA offers myriad ways to learn, either at a conference, a class or online. Wondering where to find ways to get credits?  The ASLA website provides a search page to find LA/CES courses all across the US.  Online courses are offered as either live or recorded presentations with subjects ranging from Ecology and Restoration to Business Practices, LARE Prep, and Transportation/Complete Streets.  Explore the full listing here: https://learn.asla.org/asla/.  ASLA members get at least a 75% discount from non-member prices.

From providing conferences and classes, to offering online courses to members at a discount, ASLA is working hard to provide useful services to the Landscape Architecture community, all the while demonstrating that it makes financial sense to be an ASLA member.
