President's Remarks
Duane Dietz
Spring is just about here, the sun is shining through the downpour outside of my window, and I hope everyone is in good health.
I spent this Saturday morning updating my Washington State Professional Development Worksheet as I renew my Washington State LA license. Continuing education is constantly on my mind and now is a good time to remind everyone of one of the benefits of being an ASLA member. Each month, ASLA offers one on-demand webinar each month at no cost to all current ASLA members! Members must register for the Free PDH of the Month by logging in to learn.asla.org with your existing ASLA member login and then clicking the Free PDH icon on the homepage to access the free webinar and accompanying exam for professional development hours.
Another continuing education opportunity will be our Annual Conference this October 8th in Spokane. Mark your calendars. And start thinking about submitting a presentation as we will be making the call for papers in the late spring/early summer.
As always, WASLA thrives on the input of its members and those who volunteer. We’ll have several board positions up for election this fall, so consider joining us as we ramp up to the National Conference in 2022.
Sincerely,
Duane Dietz WASLA President

Growing Together Campaign - World Landscape Architecture Month
April 2021 is World Landscape Architecture Month and ASLA is asking landscape architects to participate in their Growing Together campaign. A key element is building an interactive map of landscape architecture projects.
You can see an example here
They are especially interested in highlighting projects in traditionally underserved communities, as well as projects with high community impacts.
ASLA needs help from all of us to gather projects for the map. You can use this form to submit your ideas for projects to highlight.
These can be anything - schoolyards, green streets, parks, green roofs, backyards, greenways, bike trails - any space a landscape architect has a hand in design, planning, maintaining, or even advocating for the completion of the space.
Survey - Equity at Work: Designing an Inclusive and Equitable Workplace Culture
Your input is needed for an academic survey on equitable design practice. This survey seeks to identify perceptions of workplace culture held by a wide range of design professionals in the fields of Architecture, Urban Planning and Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, and Interior Design. Your contribution will help generate recommendations to assess design practice workplace culture and make changes towards a more inclusive and equitable workplace.
The survey asks demographic questions; however, no identifiable information is collected. All responses are anonymous. The survey should take less than ten minutes to complete.
At the end of the survey, there is an opportunity to sign up for an online interview if you would like to share more information on the topic. You will be asked to use an email address to schedule and conduct the interview. Your email address will be unattached from any data you provide and discarded at the end of the records retention period, as required by state law. Follow this link to the survey.
Your participation is greatly appreciated! The survey will remain open until the end of March. Feel free to forward this email and survey link to your professional networks. For questions about the research, see contact information below.

Earth Day 2021: The Great Global Cleanup
ASLA is partnering with the Earth Day Network on their Great Global Cleanup initiative this April as part of World Landscape Architecture Month.
Check out the EDN map of socially-distant group cleanups in your area, sign up for an individual cleanup, or go for a plog (picking up litter while jogging). Whether you tackle a park cleanup with some neighbors, or cleanup your favorite trail on a hike every effort makes a difference.
We’d love to see what you get up to! Share with us on Instagram @washingtonASLA
