Brookville Gardens Community Park

Project Title: Brookville Gardens Community Park
Landscape Architect: BCRA, Inc.
Category: General Design - Public Ownership
Location: Fife, WA
Description:
The opening of Brookville Gardens realized a city-wide effort more than a decade in the making. A former farm on a natural creek, Brookville Gardens Community Park was designed to honor the history of Fife and restore natural areas, as well as create a place where families can enjoy time together in an environment that is attractive, safe, and accessible.

Built spaces include a play area reflecting the site’s agricultural history, two picnic shelters, a large plaza, and a restroom. Open spaces offer one mile of interconnected walking trails. The park’s structures incorporate green roofs for enhanced sustainability. Other sustainable features include a porous asphalt parking lot and bioretention cells to provide water quality treatment to site runoff.

As part of the project, Wapato Creek, which runs through the site, was restored to a more natural state, assuring that the creek will evolve into a habitat for wildlife and restore a vital local ecosystem. The park has created a community treasure on revitalized land that sat contaminated and unused for many years.
