The Perch: An aerie offering respite and views

Perched on the west slope of a Seattle hillside, the landscape for the three-level home melds with the architecture to create distinct garden rooms for the owner’s personal use. The design creates four outdoor rooms that connect to the residence’s architecture in a unique manner. The peaceful quality of the private entry courtyard provides views inward to the home and its modern architecture. From inside, views to the calming entry garden and burbling fountain can be appreciated from all three levels.

Gathering areas include a fire terrace adjacent to the entry courtyard and a rooftop deck for dining and growing vegetables. Lastly, a steeply sloped west facing slope has been restored with native plants after removal of an English ivy tangle. The design embraces resiliency by integrating bioretention planters in an artful way and retaining existing trees and site walls, thereby minimizing impacts to healthy vegetation and critical areas.

All outdoor spaces offer outstanding views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains.
