Project Title: Georgetown Wet Weather Treatment Station: Laying the Groundwork for Community-Centered Infrastructure Landscape Architect: Berger Partnership Category: General Design, Public Ownership Award: Award of Honor Location: Seattle, WA Description: Georgetown Wet Weather Treatment Station, a gateway landmark for its neighborhood, will treat up to 70-million gallons of combined sewage overflow per day. An integrative design approach between King County, the design team, and the community advisory group resulted in an Envision Platinum Certified infrastructure project that improves the community’s quality of life and the health of the Duwamish River, resulting in ecological, economic, and social return on investments.
The role of the landscape architect was to reflect the history and character of the Georgetown neighborhood, implement the ecological and sustainability goals, and optimize the opportunities to showcase and interpret the inner workings of the treatment plant while integrating the massive facility into the neighborhood context.
