President's Remarks
Duane Dietz
Summer is almost upon us, the landscapes are alive with bird song and blossoms, and we seem to have turned a corner with COVID. I want to say congratulations again to our 2021 WASLA Professional Award winners, there has been great design work implemented. You can still visit the recording of the awards ceremony at this link.
Thank you to our amazing sponsors, your continued support is so important to the success of our organization. I encourage all our members to visit their websites and to meet with them in person on October 8th at the Spokane Conference.
And I want to give a big thank you to our wonderful volunteers who have put together the trivia nights, the sketch crawls, and the WASLA awards ceremony during the past year. They have enriched both our lives and WASLA during one of the most challenging years any of us have experienced. But 2021 is not over yet. I am putting out a call for volunteers who want to join the annual WASLA Conference committee. It will be WASLA’s first in-person event since February 2020, it will be in Spokane, and it should be fun. Email [email protected] if you’d like to help.
Also, I’ve been in contact with the Tennessee Chapter of ASLA to learn what they’ve gone through in local preparations for the National ASLA conference this fall in Nashville. Their biggest piece of advice, as we look ahead to the 2022 National ASLA Conference in Seattle, is to start forming an organizing committee NOW. So I am also putting the call out for people who would like to be a part of the organizing committee to email [email protected] if you’d like to join.
Sincerely,
Duane Dietz WASLA President

ACE Mentorship Program Scholarship
The ACE Mentor Program of Washington has mentored thousands of high school students in the Puget Sound area since 2001, fulfilling our mission to engage, excite, and enlighten students to careers in architecture, engineering, and construction. This year 220 students and 180 mentors participated in a completely virtual program, discovering all aspects of the design industry together.
Each year we recognize our exemplary seniors with scholarships to study A/E/C at universities around the world. We invite you to participate alongside our corporate partners by becoming a Partnering Non-Profit Professional Association with ACE, where every penny of your sponsorship funds college scholarships. None of your contribution will go to ACE administrative costs.
We ask for your support as we reach for our goal of $100,000 for this year’s scholarship program. All donations from professional organizations are added to the ACE funding collection and provide “ACE Awards” for local students. Your contribution will help ensure that deserving students can pursue a future design or construction career.
Like last year, we will present the scholarship awards during a virtual program. The student recipients, scholarship committee, mentoring firms, sponsoring firms, ACE leadership, and select guests are all invited to participate. We anticipate the event will be broadcast live in mid- to late-June but will also be recorded and placed online for later viewing. We will share the virtual meeting information with you as it is finalized.
Please respond with your pledge to Angela Gottula, ACE Executive Director, at [email protected] or 425-750-4522 by Friday, June 4.
The ACE Mentor of Program is a 501(c)3 organization. Every penny of your contribution helps Puget Sound students interested in A/E/C careers. Thank you!
