Overlook Walk and Ocean Pavilion Roof on Waterfront SeattleProject Title: Overlook Walk and Ocean Pavilion Roof on Waterfront Seattle The Overlook Walk is a new elevated public park and pedestrian connection between Seattle’s Central Waterfront and its urban core at the Pike Place Market. This historic connection had been severed for years by the construction of the double-decked Alaskan Way Viaduct, which carried over 90,000 vehicles per day, contributing shade, noise and air pollution along the Central Waterfront. The Overlook Walk provides ample space for both planned and impromptu programming and performances with fabulous views of Elliott Bay, the Olympic Mountains, the Harbor and the City, with Mount Rainier in the distance, highlighting the unique position the city of Seattle holds on the waterfront. The Overlook Walk is a new iconic landmark in the heart of Seattle. It is also emblematic of all the efforts many cities around the US and the globe are undertaking to reclaim their waterfronts as accessible public open spaces and connections to the water after decades of takeover by highways and industry. |
