Description:

The SR 167 Completion Project is more than a simple freeway corridor; it is a visionary reimagining of transportation and community, realized through exceptional collaboration. Spearheaded by the Washington State Department of Transportation in partnership with numerous agencies and the Puyallup Tribe of Indians, this six-mile transformation seamlessly integrates the ecological and cultural expertise of landscape architects from three firms, alongside engineers, biologists, and scientists. Together, they have interwoven the elements of movement, ecology, and culture to create a seamless connection between people, nature, and heritage. The result is an innovative blueprint for infrastructure design that drives progress while preserving ecological integrity and cultural legacy for the region. This project is set apart by its unified vision of innovation and inclusivity. From the spuyaləpabš (spoi-al-ah-pab-sch) Trail, which celebrates the enduring spirit of the Puyallup People, to the Hylebos Creek revitalization and restoration of the native wetland complex, the project reestablishes natural balance in an urbanizing landscape. More than a transportation solution, it is a legacy of connection, equity, and environmental stewardship, proving the power of teamwork.
