President's Message
David Stipe, ASLA, LLA

The 2015-2016 Executive Committee will begin our term this week without one notable participant.  Courtney Landoll, our past president and ExCom member for the last five years, finished her executive service to WASLA at the national convention in Chicago this month.  She leaves our group of chapter managers after helping forge a stable, dynamic organization that we can all be proud of.  She will not be wandering far however.  She has accepted a new leadership position with National ASLA as the Chapter President’s Council Chairperson.  She will be leading the national assembly of chapter presidents at the mid-year meeting in Washington DC for the next two years and at the national convention in 2016 and 2017. She also has a new professional position with the Trust for Public Land as a project manager for the Parks for People Program.  Courtney, we want to thank you for your service to the chapter and congratulate you on your new position at TPL.

Editor's Note
Stephanie Stroud

Congratulations, Courtney Landoll! The newsletter team would like to thank you for all of your hard work not only for WASLA, but for the profession. Your tireless dedication has helped WASLA become stronger and more relevant as we evolve to become a model in a region of our country already known for sustainability and progress.

On a personal note, I wrote Courtney an email several years ago when I was new to Seattle, and not only did she respond to my email, but she suggested I join a committee, remembered who I was in a city with thousands of newcomers, and later encouraged me to become editor of this very newsletter. Anyone can type a bullet on a list of goals that reads, "reach out to young professionals," but she is an illustration of someone with integrity that takes action and leads by example, making people feel welcome and appreciated. For that, we are grateful. All the best in your new endeavors!

Support the Kenichi Nakano Endowed Scholarship Fund for Landscape Architecture

For over four decades, Kenichi Nakano graced the Pacific Northwest with exceptionally subtle and inviting modernist design, generously contributed to community and civic life, and mentored generations of students and professionals of all disciplines.

On August 8, 2012, we lost our teacher, mentor, and friend all too soon.

Your gift in memory of Kenichi to the Kenichi Nakano Endowed Scholarship Fund will leave a lasting legacy and support outstanding students in the University of Washington's Department of Landscape Architecture.

UW Landscape Architecture Internship/ Practicum Portal

UWLA PAC, Internship + Research Committee

The Landscape Department at the University of Washington has been working hard on providing its students with valuable resources that can better connect them with local employers for internships and practicum opportunities.

Prior to developing these resources we sent a survey to our local employer list to get feedback on what firms wanted and if they would use specific resources. We took this information and over the summer developed a space where employers can submit internships and practicums and positions to a page that is only accessible by our students...
