President's Remarks
Tim Slazinik

Fellow WASLA Members and Chapter Supporters,

It’s finally summer! With summer comes change, and for WASLA that means Board of Directors Elections. We hope you will take the time to review the slate and vote for your new leadership. We have also received the exciting news that two of our Washington ASLA members have been elevated to Fellow. Our chapter has been lucky enough to be home to a large number of FASLA members, and we are excited to congratulate Mark Brands and Brice Maryman on their elevation to that esteemed group of professionals.

As always we would love your input and volunteer time to keep us moving forward. Look forward to more Open Studio Socials and Happy Hours, as well as Parking Day and Design Week Events coming soon. We will also be hosting our Full membership meeting in early fall. Thank you all so much for your time and dedication to WASLA and Landscape Architecture, and have a great summer!

Have a great Summer!

Congratulations to WASLA Travel Scholarship Winners!

Congratulations to the 2019 WASLA Travel Scholarship recipients, Matthew Grosser (UW MLA 2020) and Dylan Marcus (UW MLA 2021). With the support of WASLA, Matthew and Dylan will attend this year’s Conference on Landscape Architecture in San Diego and return to the University of Washington to share their experience with their peers.

ASLA Emerging Professional Membership

To all the Emerging Professionals out there, ASLA is keenly interested in helping you grow in your career.  Not only does the society provide opportunities for networking with seasoned professionals and learning opportunities, they have options to volunteer and give back to your fellow landscape designers/architects.  Since money can be scarce those first years out of school, ASLA offers a graduated dues program for 5 years (counting from graduation):

1st year (Associate): $65
2nd year (Associate): $99
3rd year (Associate): $175
4th year (Full): $225
5th year (Full): $299
6th year+ (Full): $370

Explore in more detail what tools and opportunities ASLA can provide you in your new career: https://www.asla.org/emerging.aspx and https://www.wasla.org/student-and-emerging-professional

Congratulations to the Class of 2019!  We look forward to seeing your contributions in the years to come.
